5 Great Options for “Wintertime Fun” on Delmarva

With Old Man Winter continuing to flex his considerable muscles outside, it’s only natural to feel a bit of Cabin Fever and yearn for the days when we can once again enjoy outdoor activities here on the Delmarva Peninsula.

And while it’s certainly true that there are significantly more options during the Spring, Summer and early Fall as far as recreational activities are concerned, that’s not to say there’s nothing to do during the frigid winter months.

Don’t believe us? Well, read below for five great options for wintertime fun here on the Delmarva Peninsula…

Visit a Local Museum

Southern Delmarva certainly has no shortage of great museums to visit and explore, and what better time to do so than when your outdoor options are limited due to the cold weather.

These attractions really run the gamut in terms of what they offer, with most focusing on local history in one form or another.

If you’ve never done so, please consider scheduling a day this winter to do a little “museum hopping” in the local area. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what many of these destinations have to offer.

Go Out to Eat

Our local area, in particular the towns that make up the coastal region, has become increasingly well known in the last few years for the incredible selection of quality dining options.

These are great local eateries, many of which are owned and operated by chefs who are actually in the kitchen preparing the food. This is especially true in Rehoboth Beach, where the downtown area is teeming with an eclectic selection of fantastic dining choices, most of which are reasonably priced and feature that “small town resort” atmosphere.

Now we can’t possibly do justice to any type of list in this category, but trust us when we say that there are literally dozens of great options to choose from.

Do a Google search or give your local Chamber of Commerce or Visitor’s Center a call and see what they recommend.

Happy Eating!

Take a Walk on the Beach

Who doesn’t love a walk on the beach, right? And we certainly have plenty to choose from, with 26 miles of Atlantic coastline in Delaware alone, not counting Maryland’s favorite summertime resort of Ocean City.

The advantage of taking a walk on the sandy shores during the winter months is obvious – you can pretty much have the beach to yourself.

There may be a few people out and about, but you’re certainly not going to experience any large crowds like you will between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

So unless the wind is howling and the temperatures are especially frigid, consider heading east and taking a walk along the shore, before the crowds return for the warm weather season.

Go Bowling

While there aren’t as many options as there used to be in this category, there are still enough bowling alleys open on Delmarva to make this a viable and fun winter activity.

So pack up the family and head to the lanes for a few hours of wintertime fun. Options include several in Southern Delaware and some on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

There a few local theater groups on Southern Delmarva that do a really nice job in the performing arts, operating out of small facilities throughout the region.

And the winter months are a great time to enjoy some of these fantastic performances, be it in Rehoboth Beach, in Milford, in Georgetown, in Salisbury or anywhere else in the area.

Below are the links for some of the region’s most popular local theaters. They’re all great and provide a fantastic night out with friends and/or family.
