The Whayland Company Hires New Project Superintendent
The Whayland Co., with headquarters in Laurel and clients throughout Sussex County and the eastern shore of Maryland, is pleased to announce the addition of Project Superintendent Kevin Coleman to it’s southern Delaware management team.
Coleman is primarily responsible for managing Whayland’s ongoing residential clubhouse build at the sprawling Plantation Lakes community in Millsboro, the latest of several similar projects for the western Sussex County based company in the last few years.
“This is a really good fit for me, actually even better than I originally thought,” says the 46-year-old resident of Frankford. “I’m a details person, so I enjoy the fact that I have time to really study what’s going on with a project and am able to interact daily with the contractors. It’s exciting and challenging to work with the every day changes and obstacles that come up.”
In his role as project superintendent, Coleman serves as a conduit between the Plantation Lakes management and the men and women working in the field. His job is to ensure the timely completion of the project.
Coleman comes to Whayland after a long career in related industries, including the last five years as a commercial estimator for a company in Georgetown. His background also includes time as an expediter, project manager, sales representative and other related fields.
“I wasn’t actually looking for a new job. But when I heard Whayland was looking for someone, I thought it would be a good change because that’s what I went to college for,” says Coleman, who obtained a bachelor of science in construction management from Utica College of Syracuse University in 1994. “I had worked with the people at Whayland in the past, and I always felt the company had a lot of integrity. So it seemed like a good fit for me.”
The residential clubhouse at Plantation Lakes will be 22,500-square-feet and will overlook the community’s picturesque 18-hole golf course. It will be the centerpiece of the community and will boast a number of great features.
Included in the facility will be a restaurant and sports bar, a covered balcony and lounge area overlooking the community pond, a spacious banquet area and multipurpose rooms for private functions.
Named “The Landing,” the clubhouse is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2019.
“We’re always searching for good talent to join our growing team here at Whayland, and Kevin has certainly been a great addition for us,” says Steve Hentschel, president of the Whayland Co. “We look forward to him being an integral part of our company for many years to come.”
Since opening its doors in 1950, the management and staff of the Whayland Co., has worked continuously to secure its reputation as a high-value, reasonably priced provider of construction and project management services on the Delmarva Peninsula.
The company also recently moved to its new headquarters, which is located at 100 West 10th Street in Laurel.
